In the hotel about to take a little siesta!
Had a great day and welcome dinner last night. One of the best dinners of my life, absolutely.
went out last night with some friends in the program..big group of us..and ended up at La Oveja Negra...The Black Sheep, recommended to us by our program directors..who are amazingly laid back and cool. Great, really chill place off of Las Ramblas, a wide and very long pair of streets in the center of the city, full of souvenir shops, tapas restaurantes, and bars. had a really great time.
Breakfast at the hotel this morning and had a long, maybe 2 hour walking tour just now. Awesome. I CANNOT WAIT TO GO SHOPPING. its obvious that the citizens of Barcelona are just much more relaxed in their daily lives and have few main focuses: shopping, eating leisurely, modern art, old architecture, and side street half hidden bars. amazing.
El tiempo (weather): sunny, almost hot in the sun but amazing breezes and in the shade it is much cooler. no humidity at all...Charleston, I'm not missing you at alllll yet :)
siesta time, then almuerza. (lunch)
love.

from the plane
Bloggggggg post number 1!
Written somewhere over central Spain
Just woke up about 20 minutes ago after a little 2 or 3 hour “nights sleep.” With a time difference of 6 hours, I will be arriving in Spain at 8:30 am Barcelona time, but 2:30 am US Eastern time. Yikes. Just looked out of the window to see a pretty vast looking expanse of dry reddish colored mountains with little clusters of small towns dotted in between. Pretty amazing stuff.
Overall the flight hasn’t been bad at all..sitting in the aisle, which I like, and had probably two solid hours of lovely lovely conversation with my seatmate. Eileen, the woman next to me, told me she is sixty, though she really glows to be honest, (first thing I noticed about her), is from Amelia Island in FLA, and will be in Barca for vacation with a friend. She is such a beautiful older woman and her stories about life and finding her husband when she least expected him, (after deciding she wasn’t getting married), as well as our chit chat about various part of the US we’ve lived in and traveled to have kept us both at ease and enjoying our not so wonderful coach seats. Wish you luck, Eileen, getting around la ciudad, (city en español), and in the rest of your vacation! It was lovely to meet you, live it up ☺
Pretty satisfied with how smoothly everything has run so far..minus my suitcase zipper busting at home about 2 hours before my flight takeoff. Needless to say, Irene had to run to TJ Maxx and grab another one, (by a company named Ricardo..if only it was Alejandro), and Dad proceeded to freak out justttt a little. Had such a great family send off..love ya’ll, if you’re reading. & thanks for the card mom, it was perfect.
The in-flight movie was something of the sappy, not so great acting, Queen Latifa wins the hottie at the end variety, but consumed a pretty decent amount of time anyways.
Alyssa, Hope you are safely well on your way to Italia at this very moment, can’t wait to hear from you!
Danny, hope Valencia is treating you well and I can’t wait to see you! Lets visit soon okay?
We’ve started out final descent and my ears are popping…so close!
¡Hasta Pronto!
